The Washington Commanders have fired Coach Ron Rivera as the first of many expected moves by the team’s new owners to revamp the NFL franchise, which they purchased last year.

The decision came following the Commander’s 38-10 loss to division-rival Dallas on Sunday, ending their season.

Controlling owner Josh Harris stated that the team’s results this season weren’t good enough and that a strategic shift in leadership and approach was necessary.

Harris has asked co-owners Mitch Rales, Magic Johnson, David Blitzer, former NBA executive Bob Myers, and ex-Minnesota GM Rick Spielman to assist him in the search for a head of football personnel and coach. Ownership is now dividing the responsibilities that Dan Snyder had given to Rivera when he hired him four years ago to perform both jobs.

Myers, who has served as president of basketball operations and GM of the Golden State Warriors, winning four championships along the way and being named the league’s executive of the year twice, is one of the people Harris, has enlisted to help him with the search.

General Manager Martin Mayhew and most of the front office and coaching staff are expected to leave as Harris and his fellow owners begin to reshape the organization, less than six months after taking over the team from Snyder.
