Twelve more people have died after contracting COVID-19 in Guyana, taking the country’s overall death toll to 725, their Ministry of Health has reported.

With the addition of the 12 new deaths, Guyana has recorded 100 deaths since the month of September started; this is the highest number of deaths recorded in a single month since the pandemic hit their shores in March of last year.

Additionally, there are currently 3,838 active COVID-19 cases in Guyana, following the addition of 208 new cases on September 19th from 1,750 tests. The 208 newly confirmed cases were recorded in nine of Guyana’s ten Administrative Regions.

The country has now recorded a total of 29,553 confirmed cases since the first COVID-19 case was reported in March 2020.
