A Member of Parliament for in Trinidad and Tobago, Rudranath Indarsingh, has condemned the planned retrenchment of hundreds of workers by Caribbean Airlines Limited (CAL).

On Monday, CAL announced its intention to dismiss 450 staff following a $172 million loss in its unaudited financial results for the first quarter of 2021.

In a press release issued hours later, Indarsingh said the move ultimately sends shudders through an already battered economy.

He also attacked the T&T government for failing to take salary cuts and accused it of having a hand in the alleged mismanagement at CAL.

His comments ignored the fact that CAL has been impacted, like airlines across the globe, by the COVID-19 pandemic.
