Guyanese national and father of West Indies Cricketer Veersammy Permaul, Avemanen Permaul, was remanded into custody when he appeared in court on Tuesday, charged with murdering his wife.

Fifty-two-year-old Waynmattie “Dataley” Permaul was found buried in a shallow grave seven days after she was reported missing.

Permaul, who was unrepresented during the brief court hearing was not required to plead to the indictable charge at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court.

West Indies and Guyana cricketer, Veersammy Permaul, had reported his mother missing to the authorities last Thursday, telling them he had not seen or heard from her for a week.

Police said they searched the yard of the couple’s home and uncovered the shallow grave with the woman’s body inside.

When questioned by police, the husband reportedly confessed, divulging details of how he committed the heinous act.
