Trinidadian Soca star Machel Montano has booked his ticket for the semifinals of T&T’s 2024 Calypso Monarch.

He is among 40 calypsonians who have qualified for the semifinals which are set for Skinner Park, San Fernando on February 3rd.

The Soca hitmaker had originally said he would not be taking part in T&T’s carnival festival this year to focus on his pursuit of a master’s degree in Carnival Arts.

The 49-year-old performed as a 12-year-old at the Dimanche Gras in 1986 before embarking on a soca career that has seen him win the Soca Monarch title six times and 10 Road March crowns.

His new song, named “Soul of Calypso” was released on Wednesday 24th January, 2024.

The field for the Calypso also includes former Calypso Monarchs Helon Francis, Karen Asche, Kurt Alleyne, Roderick Gordon, Terry Lyons, and Gypsy.
