The main opposition United Workers Party in Dominica wants to know why the government in the nature isle has not withdrawn its candidate for Commonwealth Secretary General.
According to the Dominica News Online, Opposition Leader, Lennox Linton says Sir Ronald Sanders, the Antigua and Barbuda nominee, already has the consensus support of CARICOM, over Baroness Patricia Scotland, Dominica’s choice for the job.
In a news release on Monday, the UWP questions why Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit is fighting against CARICOM, and the party’s leader lists six reasons why he thinks CARICOM Prime Ministers are against Skerrit’s choice.
Among them, he stated is the fact that she is a sitting member of the House of Lords in the UK, and has contributed little to regional development.
It was announced last week that the leaders of Antigua and Dominica will be meeting to decide on a common candidate as Caribbean leaders head to Malta this week for the election of a new Commonwealth Secretary General.
