Barbados’ fishing industry has the potential to generate in excess of $20 million dollars.
The efforts of the local fishing community were recently lauded by Minister of the Environment and National Beautification and Blue and Green Economy, Adrian Forde at the launch of the Republic Bank 2023 Sir Charles Williams International Fishing Tournament at Port St Charles.
Noting that in 2013, the fishing industry generated approximately $2.5 million, the Minister said it had the potential to generate ten times the amount, “with the right thrust” in 2023.
Minister Forde assured those in the game fishing industry that they would be included in the Barbados Marine Spatial Plan.
