Antigua and Barbuda has signed a memorandum of understanding with a Chinese hospital for a cancer vaccine.

Antigua’s Minister of Health Molwyn Joseph says this development could lead to the country being the first in the Caribbean to offer a cancer prevention vaccine.

According to the Antiguan health minister, the vaccine could become a reality within the next two years.

Minister Joseph was part of the Antiguan Prime Minister Gaston Browne’s delegation that visited China recently.

He said during his time there he visited the hospital with which the MOU was signed and he was blown away by the equipment they had in the facility.

He said the equipment that the Chinese have gives them the capacity not only for efficient diabetes screening, but efficient cancer screening as well.
