According to the most recent bulletin from the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO), the alert level as it pertains to the La Soufriere volcano remains at orange.

The bulletin states that “the Volcano continues to exude magma on the surface and steam can still be observed from the Belmont Observatory. Persons living in areas close to the volcano should expect strong sulphur smells for several days to weeks, depending on changes in wind direction.

The team from The Seismic Research Centre of the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine Campus, led by Vincentian Geologist Prof. Richard Robertson will be installing equipment at the Wallilabou Station on Tuesday January 5th 2020 in an effort to improve the Monitoring Network System.

No evacuation order has been issued.

NEMO will be meeting with various communities this week to discuss Community Emergency plans in the event that an explosive eruption takes place.
