The report by a Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO) team into the deaths of several babies at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the Port of Spain General Hospital in April has been delivered to the Ministry of Health (MoH).

In a statement, the MoH confirmed that PAHO Review Mission’s final report was delivered on June 21. The three-person team comprised specialist doctors based in the United States, Uruguay and Barbados.

As for the next steps, the Ministry said clinical and technical staff at the MoH and the North West Regional Health Authority (NWRHA) will undertake an internal review of the findings.

The Ministry said this is standard practice.

Once the internal review is completed, the Ministry said the entire report as submitted, will be made public.

The babies were reportedly premature and died following exposure to bacteria.
