The SVG Rugby Union has placed 4th in the region in female participation numbers for its schools Get into Rugby (GIR) Programme.

Following on from the RAN annual general meeting, which took place in Miami on August 17 and 18, the numbers were announced for the first 6 months of 2018.

President, Sophie Goddard, who attended the RAN meeting, was pleased with the results.

“We are very happy with the results for the first 6 months of 2018. We are a tiny Union compared to most in our region, so for us to place 4th for female participation, out of all the Unions is a big deal for us. Our schools programme is pretty inclusive and we definitely try to have as many females taking part as we can.”

Goddard said “All this is possible thanks to our coaches, administrators and volunteers who continue to grow the game in SVG. We would love to urge females to come along to our senior training as we try to rebuild the female national team.”

Female training takes place every Wednesday from 4:30 at the Sion Hill playing field.

Meanwhile, Team Athletics will on Saturday August 25 convene yet another of its monthly series of Executive meetings that have been held since the new Executive has been elected.

At Saturday’s meeting there will be the presentation of the report on both the CAC Games recently held in Barranquilla, Colombia and the NACAC Open held in Toronto, Canada.

There would be discussions on the Road racing Season, which begins with the Round D Town Road Relay on September 23 and the four-year Calendar, which has been prepared by the Competitions Commission, would also submit its final draft for consideration and approval.
