Shafiqua Maloney has broken the longstanding 1500m track and field record for St. Vincent and the Grenadines, which stood for 30 years.

Making her senior debut in the women’s 1500m at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational, Shafiqua surpassed the previous record of 4:20.78 set by Bigna Samuel in 1994. The new record is now set at 4:15.30.

Maloney wrapped up the event with her showing at the 800M race.

She finished the race with a time of 1:59.97.

This meet was created in 2008 to honor the late Gators track and field coach Tom Jones. Jones led Florida’s women’s track and field team for 15 seasons as head coach and led the team to 15 top-10 appearances in the indoor and outdoor NCAA championships.
