A secondary school principal in Trinidad was beaten by two students on Tuesday after he allegedly found them gambling in a classroom.

Police said that they had detained the two students – ages 16 and 17 – from the Rio Claro East Secondary School, after the principal Warren Garraway was allegedly beaten with a dustbin cover.

The principal received treatment for injuries to his face and elbow and the Trinidad and Tobago Unified Teachers Association said it was aware of the incident and was awaiting further reports from the police.

According to the Trinidad Express, Police officers are expected to interview a teacher who witnessed the incident.
