Israel has issued orders for evacuations to Palestinians as they widen their onslaught on Gaza.

The Israeli military issued the order via social media site X, saying that it was defining safe areas for civilians, in an effort to minimize harm to them.

However, according to Al Jazeera, hundreds more Palestinians have been killed since the onslaught resumed on Friday, and it is unclear where civilians might seek safety.

Journalists on the ground working with the news channel say that it it is difficult to heed the orders in real time, with nowhere safe remaining in the enclave.

According to the BBC, as Israel’s army pushes ahead, there have been growing calls – notably from its main ally, the US – to do more to protect civilians. Hundreds of thousands of people have sought shelter in Khan Younis after fleeing fighting in the north – the focus of the initial phase of Israel’s operations.
