This country’s Minister of Health the Hon. St. Clair Prince during a recent appearance on Star Radio took the time to discuss the recent rise in the number of people receiving their second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Minister Prince first made note of the fact that in the case of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine, the interval between the first and second doses had been increased from four weeks to twelve weeks, which the health minister suspects is one of the reasons why a number of persons had not come back for their second dose of the vaccine sooner.

“Those who had taken the Pfizer, I think they were told that the Pfizer is now a twelve week interval, so they could wait a bit longer, so maybe that’s why you don’t have a rush in that regard.” Minister Prince said.

When speaking about the recent rise in the vaccination numbers, while being pleased about the increase in numbers, he stressed that they were still not at where they should be; saying that he still considers the rate of vaccination to be slow.

“It is still slow, we’re not nearly as close to where we want to be but we are happy that people are slowly starting to come around and to think that, “listen, this thing is important for us, is in our best interest”. He said.

Vaccination numbers in country currently stand at 47,788 total vaccines administered, 27,828 of those being first doses and 19,960 being second doses.
