The Chairman of Carnival Development Corporation (CDC) Ricardo Adams during a press conference held this week highlighted the harsh effects of the absence of carnival.

He pointed out the fact that he had observed some soca artistes left the artform altogether, instead opting to work in other sectors.

“Unfortunately we’ve actually started seeing some of the people dropping out of the artform. I’ve got stories of guys who were soca artiste a couple of years ago and doing well in the soca artiste business, who are now van conductors and so because there’s just no option for them in the creative space at this point in time.” He said.

Mr. Adams said that while some artistes have managed to still release music and do well, that has been largely restricted to overseas and not here in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The CDC Chairman said that the corporation hopes that budding practitioners will be able to return.
