The literacy programme offered at the Clare Valley Government School was boosted today with the donation of a number of reading and writing supplies from WEFM Limited 99.9.

Speaking at a handing over ceremony this morning at the school, WEFM’s Secretary Ms. Naressa Bostwick said the donation has been made possible by the efforts of WEFM and several former employees including Natasha Roberts and the late Jamella Parsons-Samuel.

Ms. Bostwick said “Natasha worked at WEFM up until 2006. She has since migrated and now serves in the Royal Navy but still remains part of the WEFM family. She is passionate about youth and development and strongly believes that literacy and learning can help improve and positively change lives. We all have the capacity to be change makers, and this is something she’s very committed to.”

Ms. Bostwick noted that it was the persistence and commitment of Jamella Parsons-Samuel, former Administrative Assistant at WEFM that contributed towards making this donation a reality.

“We cannot fail to mention the persistence and commitment of Jamella Parsons-Samuel. Jamella, unfortunately passed away last year, but had worked effortlessly to make this a reality.”

According to Ms. Bostwick, “Mrs. Parson Samuel’s vision was to help promote literacy and reinforce students’ positive association with books, libraries and increase their access to broader reading choices. Today’s event is a part of her legacy and also a demonstration of WEFM’s commitment to our corporate social responsibility.”

Meanwhile, Principal of Clare Valley Government School, Ms. Desiree Wilson expressed appreciation for the timely donation. She said that over the years WEFM has been a major contributor to the school’s literacy programme.

“On behalf of the Clare Valley Primary School staff, student body and the parents, we wish to say thank you for the contribution.  We are very aware that WEFM throughout the years have always been part of our literacy programme. They have sponsored several trophies in the past and we look forward for the continued support from this corporate citizen.”
