A Vincentian man was fined $15 000 forthwith yesterday after he pleaded guilty to four drug-related offences in the Oistins Magistrates’ Court in Barbados.

Twenty-five-year-old Akil Xavin Jovanni John arrived in the island yesterday from Kingstown and was interviewed by members of the Drug Squad.

He was then referred to Customs where a search of his luggage revealed 20 packages of cannabis in his Pullman duffel bag.

John was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of cannabis, unlawful possession with intent to supply, trafficking and importation.

Magistrate Elwood Watts fined him $15, 000 forthwith for the offence of importation of cannabis. A two year stint in prison was the alternative.

John was convicted reprimanded and discharged for the other offences.
