St. Kitts and Nevis has shown their support for St. Vincent and the Grenadines during the explosive eruption of La Soufriere, in the form of two shipping containers of supplies.

Abdias Samuel, National Disaster Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in St. Kitts and Nevis said that 264 contributions of food, non-perishable items, personal hygiene kits, and other supplies were donated to assist persons in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The contributions are valued at $150,000.

The two shipping containers were packed to capacity according to a statement posted on NEMA’s Facebook page.

According to Samuel, St. Kitts and Nevis’ business community responded favourably to the agency’s call for donations.

NEMA’s release indicated that a second relief drive is being organized and that residents who were unable to contribute to the initial relief can do so now.
