Trinidad and Tobago’s Chief Medical Officer Dr. Roshan Parasram is cautioning that the country appears to be on the verge of a significant increase in COVID-19 cases.

It comes after an upsurge in cases was recorded in the country over the past two weeks. He said this has led to an 89 per cent increase in COVID-19 cases and is concerning.

“What we are seeing is a rolling average of 10.28 over the last seven days, 70 cases over the last epidemiological week compared to 37 the week before representing and 89 per cent increase over that period. Thirty-four cases accrued over the weekend alone and 142 cases for the first three weeks of March versus 149 for all of February,” T&T’s CMO said.

Dr. Parasram said it is not yet clear if this is Trinidad’s third wave, so it is being considered part of the second phase.
