Thermal anomalies continue to be detected at the La Soufriere volcano. This is according to the University of the West Indies’ Seismic Research Centre’s most latest scientific update.

The research centre in their update stated that the anomalies are not an indication of an imminent explosive event but that that there is a source of heat, most likely from a small body of magma left over from the eruption, that is still close to the crater floor.

Persistent steam emissions from a few regions inside the crater continue to be the dominant observable feature.

The update warned that the volcano continues to be in a state of unrest, and while volcanic activity has been on the decline, escalation in activity can take place with little or no warning.

The volcanic alert level remains at Orange.
