Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, Fisheries, Rural Transformation, Industry & Labour, the Hon. Saboto Caesar, while appearing as a guest on the Shake Up program, discussed the Ministry’s upcoming seed distribution.

“I am aware that IICA has a large quantity of seeds to be sent to St. Vincent and the Grenadines and when we receive them we are going to have a massive distribution to the farmers.”

Minister Caesar stated that as production is ramped up, it is also very important to pay close attention to scales for supply and demand.

“The last thing we want is an overproduction in one period, a massive fallout in the prices and persons not being able to have a return on their investments. So we are trying to stagger the process so we are monitoring the quantity of seedlings that we distribute, because we know what the market can bear.”

Caesar said that supermarkets had been spoken to about importing less of the commodities that are being invested in locally as to avoid a blot on the market.
