St. Vincent and the Grenadines might not be eligible for a second tranche of vaccines from the United States. This is according to Prime Minister Dr. the Hon. Ralph Gonsalves, who made the statement while discussing the slow uptake of COVID-19 vaccines in country.

“The United States Government has contacted us. They want to know how much we have been using and while other countries are going to get their second tranche, we are not in a position to tell them to give us a second tranche yet. Would it be available when we want it?” He said.

The Prime Minister said that many in SVG assuming that vaccine supplies will always be available to the country but that may not be the case.

Dr. Gonsalves noted that Prime Ministers within the region had contacted him in hopes that SVG might have Pfizer vaccine doses to spare.

“I got calls from two Prime Ministers in the Caribbean, asking if there are Pfizer vaccines that we can spare. The vaccines don’t have an indeterminate life. I think these Pfizer vaccines go up to February of next year, those which we have”. The Prime Minister said.

Prime Minister Gonsalves made this disclosure while calling into the Issues at Hand program aired every Sunday On WEFM.
