Strike action by Air Traffic Controllers has hit the Grantley Adams International Airport in Barbados causing delays to several flights.

According to the Nation Newspaper, scores of passengers are currently at the airport waiting for an indication of if and when they will be able to board their delayed flights.

Flights to Trinidad, Puerto Rico and Antigua have been delayed along with flights from St. Vincent and Grenada.

It is believed the airport workers are acting in solidarity with striking Barbados Water Authority employees.

Meanwhile, Regional airline, LIAT, says all flights to and from Barbados for today March 24, have been delayed due to the closure of the Grantley Adams International Airport.

LIAT said in statement that it also regrets to advise that passengers who decide to travel but are unable to complete their journey will not be provided with meals, transportation or hotel accommodation as the situation is beyond LIAT’s control.

Affected passengers are asked to continue to monitor the LIAT website; and those with onward connections are advised to contact the respective carriers.
