Senator Hon. Ashelle Morgan via media release sent out this morning, announced that she is taking one month leave of absence from the sittings of the House of Assembly.

“In light of the charge that I have been called upon to answer in the Magistrate’s Court; I have sought from the Speaker of the House of Assembly, a one (1) month leave of absence from the sittings of the House of Assembly, in the first instance” the release read.

Senator Morgan in her release said that while there is no legal or moral obligation for her to take such a leave, she chose to do so voluntarily because she does not wish for upcoming trial to overshadow the business of the House of Assembly.

Senator Morgan was, on Friday, arraigned on a charge of assault with intent to commit wounding.

She pleaded not guilty and was granted bail and is scheduled to return to court on July 5th.
