Dr. Ralph Gonsalves

Prime Minister Dr. Hon. Ralph Gonsalves while speaking on NBC radio on Monday June 28th 2021 discussed the Russian Sputnik V vaccine and the Government’s current attempt to procure doses of it.

“I spoke to the Chief Medical Officer to execute an order in relation to the Sputnik, and the quantity for the first dose that they want to give, if we can’t deal with all of it, we will purchase it and we will give- I had spoken to one other Government in the region before and they said that if we bought them they would take some from us.” He said.

The Prime Minister also urged the public to take the vaccine that is already readily available.

“But I’m urging persons to take the vaccine which is available, the AstraZeneca is a perfectly good vaccine.” He said.

He acknowledged the fact that Vincentians have their preferences when it comes to COVID-19 vaccines but cautioned that COVID-19 will be around for the foreseeable future and even the rest of our lives, saying that it would be in our best interest of taking the vaccine and also taking booster shots.

St Vincent and the Grenadines has the lowest uptake in vaccinations across the OECS.

According to the most recent COVID-19 update Dashboard 24,737 vaccines have been administered so far.
