Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves will leave the state today along with a delegation, to attend the 14th United Nations Conference of Parties – in New Delhi India.

COP 14, which runs from September 2nd to the 13th, will feature a high-level segment that would be attended by delegates from 197 signatories to the convention on September 9th  and 10th.

Dr. Gonsalves visit comes – following an invitation issued by Dr. Byron-Cox, Secretariat of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification last month

While here Dr. Cox made a special call on Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves – to deliver an invitation on behalf of the Executive Secretary of the UNCCD, Ibrahim Thiaw.

Speaking on WE FM yesterday, Dr. Gonsalves said while in India, he will co-chair a key high-level dialogue at COP 14 on Land, climate and renewable energy, as well as propose a program of activities during his attendance at COP 14.

Other members of the delegation include Minister of Health, Luke Browne, Cheryl Rodriquez, SVG’s High Commissioner to London His Excellency His Excellency Mr. Cenio E. Lewis, and the Director of Forestry, Fitzgerald Providence.

 The last COP in 2017 was held in Ordos, China.
