Prime Minister Dr. the Hon. Ralph Gonsalves during a call to the Issues at Hand program on Sunday discussed teachers, as well police officers, who had failed to get vaccinated before the November 19th deadline, getting vaccinated after and being able to return to their posts.

“If even after the deadline you go and take the vaccine and your position is not yet filled, I am sure that the public service commission will accept you back, or the police service commission, as the case might be.” He said.

The Prime Minister made specific mention of at least twelve teachers returning to their posts post deadline, after being vaccinated.

“I know that at least twelve teachers, after the deadline that, they had taken the vaccine, and they have sent in their vaccination documents, and those positions have not been filled.” He said.

Prime Minister Gonsalves said the teachers that had elected to get vaccinated and return to their post had their letters of abandonment   rescinded.

Gonsalves during his call to the program reiterated that the aim of the vaccination requirements was not to put anyone out of a job but to instead create safe working environments for everyone involved by having them vaccinated against COVID-19.
