The Government has been spending more two million dollars a month, providing meals for evacuees in emergency shelters who were displaced by the explosive eruption of the La Soufriere volcano. This is according to this country’s Minister of Finance the Hon. Camillo Gonsalves.

“Other expenditure that has already taken place was money for example, for meals in shelters. We’ve been spending over two million dollars a month essentially; to pay for caterers, to pay for certain food stuff at the market and the like and to prepare food in the shelters.” He said. The Finance Minister said that 15,000 boxes of food were purchased from NGOs overseas, each valued at little over $150.
