Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, Fisheries, Rural Transformation, Industry & Labour the Hon. Saboto Caesar says that while the local fishing industry makes the transition from artisanal to commercial, no fisher will be left behind.

He also spoke of a fleet expansion project that will enable greater harnessing of SVG’s marine resources in a sustainable manner.

“I wish to note to you that in the movement from artisanal fishing to the establishment of a commercial fisheries, that we will not leave a single fisher behind, and I want you to be encouraged by this and be an active participant in the development of the fisheries sector.” He said.

Minister Caesar then goes on to speak on the expansion of the nation’s fishing fleet and how it will be financed.

“I wish to congratulate the Kingstown Cooperative Credit Union for the conversation that we have been engaged in over the last three months; we are working towards the establishment of strategic capitalization project for a fleet expansion in St. Vincent and the Grenadines in order for the stakeholders to be able to harness greater quantities of our marine resources in a sustainable way.” He said.

Minister Caesar said that the Government, KCCU and offtakers will play crucial roles in the process to ensure the best evolution of the project.
