During his call to the Issues at Hand program this past Sunday, Minister of Finance, the Hon. Camillo Gonsalves, took the time to discuss the preparatory stage of the modern port project in Kingstown.

“The big ticket item in the budget in terms of infrastructure would be the port project, the modern port that we hope to build in Kingstown. Over $40 million is allocated there.”

Minister Gonsalves said that actual construction work on the projection will not commence until the end of 2022.

“You won’t see anything, you know, shovels in the ground until the end of the year; but a lot of preparatory work has to be done. We have to mobilize our contractors, we have to get our quarries in place so that we have the stones and the steel material for when port construction begins— all of that preliminary work will be set in this budget as well.” The Finance Minister said.
