British Virgin Islands Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley shut down rumours today that he will call an early General Election.

“There would be no calling of early elections,” Wheatley declared in an update this afternoon.

He said the three-week-old National Unity Government will use the remainder of its term, which ends in 2024, to work with Governor John Rankin to implement governance reforms identified in a Commission of Inquiry (COI) Report.

“We are fully prepared to do this and will continue our ongoing and constructive engagement with the governor and United Kingdom government on reform as the UK government considers its course of action regarding the implementation of the COI recommendations. I do hope an official response will be communicated as soon as possible,” Wheatley stated.

Moving forward, the National Unity Government has proposed a framework on how governance reforms can be implemented.
