The Ministry of Health has reaffirmed its commitment to work assiduously to reduce the number of HIV and Tuberculosis (TB) infections, as well as the number of deaths associated with TB and HIV here in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

This commitment was uttered by Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Luis DeShong, as he delivered the feature address at a ceremony yesterday to launch activities to celebrate World AIDS Day, which will be observed on December 1st.

Mr. DeShong said more than 80% of people living with HIV in this country have been screened for Tuberculosis.

Mr. DeShong also noted that greater efforts must be made to address the marginalized groups, namely, adolescent girls and young women, gay men and other men who have sex with men, transgender people, sex workers and prisoners, to lower their risk of infection.
