Minister of Finance Camillo Gonsalves during the 2022 budget debate last week disclosed that the Government has spent over $50 million on coastal and river defence so far.

Over the last five years the government has spent more than fifty million dollars to construct coastal and river defences in Arnos Vale, Belle Vue, Buccament, Calliaqua, Caratal, Carriere, Georgetown, Langley Park, Mayreau, San Souci, Troumaca, and Glenside, to name but a few.” He said.

The Finance Minister said that each year millions of dollars are allocated for the purpose of building resilience and helping the nation to adapt to the most urgent impacts of climate change.

Minister Gonsalves during his speech said that the Government is proud of its record of environmental advocacy and efforts to build resilience to natural disasters and climate change.
