The Ministry of Agriculture is the recipient of 24 pieces of agriculture machinery from the Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan).
The donation comprises 8 sets each of-wheel type cultivator, non-wheel type cultivator and power sprayers to be distributed to 8 agricultural cooperatives.
The beneficiaries are: Pineapple Growers Cooperative Limited (PINCO), Rabacca Farms Cooperative Limited (RAFCO), South Rivers High Quality Farmers Co-operative Society Limited, Greiggs Multi-Farming Co-operative Society Limited (GREMCO), Greiggs Rastafarian Progressive multi-purpose society limited (RASFARCO), Mount Pleasant Farmers Co-operative Society Limited, New Prospect Producers’ Marketing Co-operative Society Limited and South Windward Farmers in Action Producers Co-operative Society Limited (SOWAPCO).
The donation valued EC$65,000 comes under the Strengthening Farmers Organizations and Improve Fruit and Vegetable Production Technology Project.
Speaking at a ceremony yesterday where the equipment was handed over, His Excellency Ambassador Der-Li Liu, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Taiwan said the agricultural machinery was made in Taiwan.
Meanwhile, Minister of Agriculture Saboto Caesar urged the cooperatives to make good use of the machinery and to care for them.
