St. Vincent and the Grenadines’ leading infectious disease specialist Dr. Jerrol Thompson, during a call to WEFM’s Wake Up morning program earlier today, took the time to discuss how COVID-19 affects men, specifically speaking on erectile dysfunction.

“They’ve done autopsies of men who died, they have to do autopsies on a lot of men and they found testicles swollen, they found a significant drop in sperm count, what you call oligospermia in some 39 percent of cases an in a smaller amount they found aspermia, no sperm at all.

But more importantly they’ve seen men who are alive and recovering complaining of pain in the testicles, orcitis, and worst of all, because COVID is not only a respiratory disease, affecting the lungs, it is also a vascular disease, it affects the lining inside the blood vessels; the testicles and the penis are no exception”. Thompson said.

Dr. Thompson said that the attack on those blood vessels by COVID-19 is causing a significant amount of erectile dysfunction.
