The St. Vincent and the Grenadines Community College Division of Technical Vocational Education and the Mustique Charitable Foundation have partnered to offer just over eighty eight unemployed young persons across St. Vincent and the Grenadines skills training in four skill based areas in a summer program called “The Youth Employability Program”.
Speaking at the launch of the program, Dean of the Division of Technical Vocational Education, Mr. Osborne Bowens said the summer program will run for four weeks at a cost of $180,000 and is funded by the Mustique Charitable Foundation.
He said the participants will be trained in the areas of pluming installation, electrical installation, refrigeration installation and maintenance and commercial food preparation along with computation and cost estimation as well as some entrepreneurial skills and soft skills.
They will receive a transportation allowance, free lunch and at the end of the program, tools and equipment relating to their area of training. In addition they will be sent on a two-week work attachment.
Also speaking at the launching was Administrator at the Mustique Charitable Foundation Ms. Lavinia Gun who said that this is just one of the many ways the Mustique Company gives back to St. Vincent and the Grenadines, with the aim of helping young people to develop through learning a skill.
Minister of Education St. Clair Jimmy Prince hailed the program as being important saying “The more young people get a skill the more employable they are thus making them beneficial to the market place.”
