Following the explosive eruption of La Soufriere this morning, it has been disclosed by Prime Minister Dr. Hon. Ralph Gonsalves that several countries in the region have begun preparations of hotels in order to accommodate evacuees from St. Vincent.
Gonsalves said that he had spoken with the Prime Ministers of Grenada, Antigua and Barbuda and Dominica, he stated that he is scheduled to speak with the Prime Ministers of St. Lucia and St. Kitts and Nevis.
The Prime Minister stated that Dominica, Antigua and Barbuda and Grenada had indicated that they will be ready to house evacuees from St. Vincent and the Grenadines by Sunday or Monday.
Dr. Gonsalves said the countries will be preparing their hotels that had been closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, to accommodate evacuees from SVG. He said the moment the hotel rooms are being cleaned and readied.
According to the Prime Minster, the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr. Simone Keizer Beache will be identifying those who have already been vaccinated so that boarding of the cruise ship vessels that have come to assist with the country’s evacuation.
