Dr. Ralph Gonsalves

Prime Minister Dr. Hon. Ralph Gonsalves while appearing as a guest on VC3’s Roundtable Talk, discussed the importance of COVID-19 vaccination in the event that an explosive volcanic eruption were to take place. He highlighted the various COVID-19 related issues that could arise during the evacuation process.

“If Soufriere were to blow, as we normally speak, you can imagine thousands of people moving from the red zone in the north east and the red zone in the north west going into shelters, going into camps in large numbers. There is a likelihood that you will have an enhanced community spread of a kind, this could bring about extraordinary pain and suffering, and illness, serious illness and loss of life, not just from Soufriere, but from Covid, from this virus. That is why it is so important that we all be vaccinated, simple as that.” Gonsalves said.

As of the Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment’s most recent COVID-19 update dashboard, 11,906 persons have been vaccinated against COVID-19 in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
