Bermuda’s teachers have passed a motion of no confidence in the Education Minister, the ministry’s permanent secretary and the Commissioner of Education.

The opposition One Bermuda Alliance (OBA) described it as a “shocking” turn of events.

The motion was passed at an emergency meeting of the Bermuda Union of Teachers (BUT), but details of why it was passed have not yet been revealed.

However, sources said teachers have felt ignored and that the BUT is not given enough respect, according to a report by LOOP NEWS.

In response, Bermuda’s Education Minister Diallo Rabain told the Bermuda Broadcasting Company that the government was willing to come to the table and talk with the BUT.

Bermuda’s Shadow Education Minister Ben Smith said the action was shocking and underscored a prolonged breakdown in communication between teachers and the government.
