With the Australian Direct Aid Program (DAP) starting its new round of funding next week, Acting Australian High Commissioner in the Caribbean Ms. Casey Beath took the time while speaking on WEFM’s “Wake Up” morning program, to discuss DAP’s past projects in SVG.

“For over ten years we’ve been funding community groups and NGOs in St. Vincent and the Grenadines to run projects in their communities and one recent example is the project that we funded last year with the voice of the disabled.” Beath said.

Ms. Beath said that under that project, DAP funded the refurbishment of the headquarters of the Voice of the Disabled, as well as funded capacity building training for people living with disabilities in the community of San Souci.

The training focused on helping participants to learn to read, write and develop their professional skills, enabling them to be able to enter into new employment or share their new skills with their community.

Australia’s Direct Aid Program (DAP), a flexible small grants program through which the Australian Government supports development projects that promote sustainable economic growth and poverty reduction. Projects under DAP are generally between 3,500 US dollars and a maximum of 44,000 US dollars, and run for between 12 months and a maximum of two years.
