An explosive event has taken place at La Soufriere once again. This was confirmed by a post by the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) this morning.

“Explosive event is now in progress at La Soufriere” the post read.

Numerous videos on social media show an eruption plume coming up from the volcano.

The UWI Seismic research center shared an image of the eruption plume alongside a statement that said it has risen above 8 km into the atmosphere and that most of the material seems to be going out to sea.

Professor Richard Robertson had indicated that the next explosion could be expected in the next 7 days, but warned that an explosive event could take place at any time.

This morning’s eruption enforced his statement, showing that even in periods of quiet the volcano proves to still be dangerous.

Updates will be provided as more information is presented.
