The La Soufriere volcano continues to explosively erupt, bringing with it the ash fall that has plagued St. Vincent and the Grenadines as well as other countries in the region.

However according to Professor Richard Robertson Director of the University of the West Indies Seismic Research Centre, the intensity of the ash fall seems to be decreasing. Professor Robertson says that what we have been experiencing over the last 24 hours have been what he called “discreet events”.

Robertson said that in the first couple days of eruptions, what was experienced “was a succession of events that more or less went on continuously”. He said that this has not been experienced so far in the last 24 hours.

Professor Robertson even made mention of the most recent explosion which took place this morning, saying that the ash from that explosion may not even make it to the south of the island or Barbados, according to satellite imagery.

However he noted that the extremely dangerous pyroclastic flows still continue to occur on the mountain, which means the red zones are still highly hazardous areas.
