Citizens of St. Vincent and the Grenadines are being urged to adhere to the COVID-19 protocols set out by the Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment, as the country has recorded its first case of the Delta variant of COVID-19. This advice came from Deputy Prime Minister, the Hon. Montgomery Daniel, during an address to the nation on Friday.

“In view of the presence of this highly contagious variant of the COVID-19 causing virus in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, the Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment is asking the public to increase their compliance with the basic public health measures of: correct mask use, physical distancing, and hand sanitizing. The Ministry once again urges all eligible members of the Vincentian public to get vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus now.

The Delta variant of COVID-19 was first detected in India, and is known for its increased transmissibility, and reducing the effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccines. It currently accounts for 93% of new COVID-19 cases in the USA and the associated illness and deaths.
