There is no relation between the geothermal project and the current activity at La Soufriere. This comes from the Director of National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) Ms. Michelle Forbes. This was in response to persons looking to attribute La Soufriere’s effusive eruption to the project.
“What happened at the geothermal site has absolutely nothing to do with what is happening now at the La Soufriere volcano. Where the drilling was taking place is completely different from the chamber that the magma is coming from now from the volcano. If you look at the geographical location and the vents that we have now where the magma is oozing out, it’s all the way towards the area overlooking Chateaubelair, Fitz Hughes, Richmond area and look at where the geothermal exploration was being done, they’re totally different vents over totally different chambers.” Ms Forbes said.
The NEMO Director said that while persons may have their doubts, she affirms that the geothermal project had nothing to do with the current activity at La Soufriere.
