Insurance coverage for the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Teachers Union has been increased from $600, 000 to 1 million dollars.

The coverage by Adams Insurance Brokers, came into effect on May 1st.

Making the announcement was made by president of the SVGTU, Wendy Bynoe, during a message to mark the 21st Biennial Convention, which was on April 30th 2020, on the theme “Building a New General of Trade Unionists”.

Ms. Bynoe said this increase comes with other in-plan improvements that create more value for members.

She also noted that the $25 000 US limit on the air ambulance has been removed and there is now a 100% coverage, with the limit for airfare improving significantly, from $3,500 per year to $3,500 per trip.

The SVGTU President also said the Union has had outstanding results, making history with a surplus of $54, 828,  and an increase of its critical illness fund from $18, 743 to $163,372.86, since it took office.

Ms. Bynoe said the Union also partnered with several business places and firms to offer savings on goods and service, including a Digicel package and no other discounts ranging from 5 to 20%.

At the end of the Biennium, Ms. Bynoe said the SVGTU increased its membership to 1406 members, a 20% increase from 1137.
