St. Vincent and the Grenadines will be making an initial contribution of US $100,000 to Haiti, following a devastating 7.2-magnitude earthquake that has claimed almost 1,300 lives. The contribution was disclosed by the Prime Minister Dr. the Hon. Ralph Gonsalves during a call to the Shake Up program this morning.

“I cleared with the Minister of Finance this morning; we’ll make an initial contribution promptly US $100,000. We have our own problems and challenges, but the Haitian people, they are our brothers and sisters, and the greatest act of solidarity, is not to give from the abundance that you may possess, but from the little that you have.” Gonsalves said.

The Prime Minister also appealed to the region and international bodies to play a part in Haiti’s relief efforts.

“I’m asking, I’m requesting, I’m pleading with the regional community and the international family of nations to respond generously to Haiti’s plight.” He said.
