This country joins the international community today in celebrating World Food Day 2015, under the theme “Social Protection and Agriculture: Breaking the Cycle of Rural Poverty”.
World Food Day is celebrated annually on October 16th, to raise awareness about the challenges of hunger and to encourage people worldwide to take action in fighting hunger.
Chair of the World Food Day Committee, Senior Forestry Officer Cornelius Richards says the theme aims to highlight the role social protection plays in reducing chronic food insecurity and poverty by ensuring access to food.
Mr. Richards outlined exactly what is social protection.
Meanwhile, Mr. Richards said farmers play a crucial role in the process of fighting hunger.
