According to the most recent update from the University of the West Indies Seismic Research Centre, seismic activity at the La Soufriere volcano has remained low since the tremor associated with the explosion and ash venting that took place on April 22nd 2021.

The Seismic Research Centre’s update stated that steaming from the volcano summit due to degassing and other interactions can be seen from the observatory.

Thermal anomalies also continue to be detected, these anomalies do not indicate that an explosive event is imminent but that there is a source of heat, which the research centre says is likely from a small body of magma that is still close to the crater floor.

The La Soufriere volcano continues to be in a state of unrest and the authorities warn that an escalation in activity can still take place at any time with little or no warning. The volcanic alert level is at orange.
