Dr. Ralph Gonsalves

On Thursday 30th July 2020 St.Vincent and the Grenadines joined the global community in commemorating the United Nations’ World Day against Trafficking in persons. Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Ralph Gonsalves made a statement on radio earlier today highlighting local law enforcement’s efforts in eradicating human trafficking and urging the general public to be diligent on the matter.

“I note, too, our country’s introduction of human trafficking in the curriculum at the police training school and this has been hailed as the best practice by African Caribbean Pacific European Union Migration Action Seminar on trafficking in human beings, women and children based in Brussels.”

Prime Minister Gonsalves went on to encourage the general public to be diligent in reporting any suspected cases of human trafficking that they might be witness to.

This year, the theme of World Day against Trafficking Persons is centered around the first responders to human trafficking. These are the people who work in different sectors – identifying, supporting, counselling and seeking justice for victims of trafficking, and challenging the impunity of the traffickers.
